Today I had the pleasure of mentoring another photographer. I demonstrated my off camera flash techniques that I use with my out door portraits.  Since it was snowing out, we staying in my studio.  So, I didn't need High Speed Sync but was I still able to compare Canon Speed lites, Mag mods, the Profit A1 and the Profoto B1 using the Profoto beauty dish.  Scroll down for the comparisons of the light output using modifiers and with all the different equipment I have used.  We had the wow moment after one shot with the Profoto B1 and softbox.  It just gave get exposure for the most flattering portrait.

Canon Speed Lite - no diffuser.  Leaves harsh shadows.

Canon Speedlite with Mag Sphere. Softer shadows than without a diffuser as expected.

Canon Speedlite with MagBounce.  More spread of light for brighter background still harsh shadow on background. Softer shadows on face than without diffuser.

Profoto A1 with dome diffuser. Softer light on subject. Still harsh shadow on background.

Profoto B1 with Profoto Beauty Dish.  Right out of camera perfect exposure, soft shadows and quick drop off of shadow so none on backdrop.
